Russley School Travel Plan

Christchurch City Council has sponsored the development of the Russley Primary School Travel Plan.

School travel plans aim to support and encourage children to safely walk, scooter or bus with their parents, caregivers or friends to and from school where possible.

The plans include consideration of local road safety issues which may be affecting choices on how children travel to and from school.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Russley School Travel Plan are to:

  • Improve the safety of our children's travel to and from school
  • Improve the physical health and learning ability of our children
  • Encourage and support Russley families to reduce the use of cars and reduce congestion at the school gate
  • Reduce energy use and pollution of our environment.

A copy of the Russley Travel Plan can be downloaded here.

Over 50% of primary school children in Christchurch travel to school by car even though 85% of them live within two kilometres of their school.
